Future Shock Future Shock is a Culture Shock youth outreach program. Current troupe dancers work one-on-one with Future Shock teens, and at-risk-youth to offer them a positive alternative to some of the destructive influences plaguing today's youth. The program provides mentoring and dance training to teens and youth ages 17 and under. Future Shock dancers are then given the opportunity to exhibit and showcase their talents to the community, friends, family, and peers. Mission: WE ARE the youth of today and the LEADERS OF TOMORROW who through the POSITIVE ENERGY of music and dance, build SELF-ESTEEM and create a POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT for all people to be respected, INCLUDING YOU AND ME. To accomplish the mission and objectives, Culture Shock DC 's Future Shock Program is designed to provide a constructive and creative outlet for young people. Future Shock provides individuals with a safe environment to work and express themselves, giving voice to urban issues. Our program promotes positive values, including respect, commitment, accountability and responsibility. We address issues of social justice through the choreography we create with the students, while promoting racial reconciliation by teaching young people to love and respect people who are different from themselves. Dance is the vehicle through which we teach our students responsibility, respect, accountability, commitment and discipline. Our main focus is creating leaders in the community.
