CULTURE SHOCK LAS VEGAS, a non-profit educational organization, is the most innovative company of today's pop culture. The company uses hip-hop/street dance to empower young people to stay away from drugs, violence and hatred, and strive for a life-style that embraces acceptance, achievement, and self confidence. The company was developed in 1995, under the direction of international fitness expert Darryl Thomas. Its ideology mirrors the original Culture Shock developed in 1993 under the direction of Nike Fitness Trainer, Angie Bunch. Both organizations share the powerful vision to expand the opportunities of those less fortunate than themselves. We share the mission, "Through the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity, and respect for all people." CULTURE SHOCK LAS VEGAS offers a diverse group of individuals an opportunity for educational assistance, dance, and leadership training. The dancers come to the company through an audition with a range of backgrounds and a wealth of talent. They are all encouraged to create a dance piece that reflects their uniqueness and character. But at the same time, strive to maintain the integrity of hip hop as a distinct form. The company's intent is to cultivate the hip-hop dance form and teach it with the same dedication and respect commanded by other "classic" dance forms. The company believes that by validating the dance created by kids on the street, you are validating those kids as well. CULTURE SHOCK LAS VEGAS offers a supportive and positive environment through the following programs: • Company/Hip Hop training classes • Future Shock Youth Outreach Program for children age 10-17 CULTURE SHOCK LAS VEGAS coordinates youth programs with the following local community groups: • The Greater Las Vegas Inner City Games -- Provide a six-week hip hop training program for children age 7-17. • Z Squared (Zero Weapons and Zero Violence) -- Provide an interactive assembly at elementary, middle, and high schools in Clark County using the powerful medium of hip hop dance, monologue skits, and audience participation to encourage safety in schools.
